The hard disk works just fine, but the data cable attached to it is very poor and becomes very loose after just 6 months. Even if the laptop is moved very little the wire becomes loose and whole setup is disturbed

I bought this product on festive sales during independence day 2016. The product performance seems ok, I was able to store some 200 GB Data, but I am not sure if it is locked whether it is covered under warranty. One should check this before buying, most of the guys make money by locking the data. Secondly I was charged 6600 less 500 bucks cash back during the festive season. However I found the product price was listed as 5750 after the festive sale concluded. I felt that I was being taken for a royal ride…..when I contacted Amazon guys their amazing reply was bad luck buddy we are helpless ! So guys beware unless you are sure that you are getting a good deal during festive season don’t buy if you are unsure.

Bought this thing on the 22nd of September. Barely one month has passed (It’s 9th of October now) and recently it started making weirdclicking noises and stopped working.I have applied for a replacement and hopefully get my money’s worth on this.

The hard disk stopped working and I had to restore it twice. Thought it was my fault first, turns out the disk was damaged from the beginning. I lost a lot of important information, worst of all my portfolio. Very disappointed as I heard such good things about hard disks from this company. I have a WD MyCloud 2TB with a Seagate 4TB Backup Plus as a backup and both required power, but I need a 4TB portable hard disk and ended up in buying this Western Digital 4TB My Passport Portable hard disk (New Edition) for Rs.8198.————————————————📦 IN THE BOX & HDD CONTENTS————————————————◾ 4TB Blue Portable Harddisk in a bubble case◾ Superspeed USB cable◾ Quick Install Guide◾ WD Discovery software for WD Backup◾ WD Security and WD Drive Utilities—————————————-🗓️ MY USAGE & EXPERIENCE—————————————-The product has been manufactured in Thailand and imported to India and this New Edition WD My Passport is supposed to have lesser failures and supposed to be more robust than the previous version.Upon connecting 3.63TB was free and 297MB was used by the formatting of the disk which stores the disk geometry that allows hard disk to accept, store, and retrieve data. The hard disk was formatted with NTFS.This hard disk fits inside the palm of the hand and is quite small for a 4TB, 10.7cm length, 7.5cm breadth and 1.8cm depth, and is not heavy too.Being a portable hard disk, it doesn’t require any power. I was able to connect it with my Xbox, WD MyCloud, Laptop and Desktop with ease and it detects quite fast.The write speeds were at 110 MB/s in actual and read speeds was around 115 MB/s. The disk reports were also almost similar at 120-127 MB/s. (see attached report). But the speeds changes depending on the free disk space, how much the disk is fragmented and whether there are any bad sectors, etc. This is quite impressive in my opinion.I didn’t see any heating up issues with this new edition and temperature always remained under 37 degree C even under heavy writes in my testing with room temperature around 27- degree C.The WD Discovery software is super cool, it can import files from social media and maintain a backup. Just need to sign into Facebook or Instagram or Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive. It can also take a backup from WD MyCloud devices.The WD Security app provides a way to setup a password for the hard disk and contents can be encrypted, so when data is written it’s encrypted and when data is read it’s decrypted when password is used. I haven’t tried any brute force recovery of data on this disk yet but the encryption seems to be good enough for home use. I didn’t set the password as if password is forgotten I can’t recover it back and only way to re-use the disk is by formatting.The hard disk has a small led indicator which can be turned off from the WD Discovery settings if required.I was able to backup all my YouTube video edits with ease and quickly, also was able to back up my Dropbox.I don’t see any cons as of now, and since I haven’t contacted the customer service I can’t comment on that part.————————-💖 WHAT I LIKED————————-◾ 3 years warranty◾ Good looking and light weight◾ Automatic backup, Password protection + 256bit Encryption◾ Fast read and write speeds——————-🥇 OVERALL——————-A great hard disk at a good pricing. The device works perfectly and can be used on xbox, ps4 pc and Mac however you will not get the full 4tb when I plugged mine in it said that I had 3.6tb available, tried formatting it and still the same, that’s 400gb that I can’t use on the device I understand that some is needed to be used by the system to make it run etc but not nearly half a terabyte

I ordered 2 TB-Blue for Rs 4500 [4999-499(10% instant off, SBI)] The product was eligible for free 1 day delivery from Dankuni warehouse to Dumdum, Kolkata.The product is very compact and light-weight. Maximum available storage is 1863 GB because storage manufacturers consider 1000 byte= 1 kilobyte, 1000 KB= 1 MB etc. (They use 1000 multiplier instead of 1024) The hard disk has 1 partition using the GPT scheme. WD kept about 1 MB unallocated at the beginning and at the end of the primary partition.Always perform the surface test and SMART test after buying a hard disk. Read speed at areas with data: about 70-80 MBPS, Read speed at empty areas: 220-250 MBPS. The surface test took about 2 Hours 10 Minutes because most of the hard disk was empty. Write speed is about 80-90 MBPS. The temperature was about 44-45 degree Celcius during heavy read-write (atmosphere was about 30 degree Celcius). Please see the attached images for full test results.WD pre-loaded some software for users in the hard disk. WD Discovery, WD backup, and WD drive utilities. The offline installers are outdated and they need to be updated later. Thus, if you have an internet connection, I recommend downloading them directly from the official website. Also, download WD security if you need to password protect your hard disk. WD discovery software doesn’t do much except helping you to install other software. Thus you can skip this one. You need to configure WD backup to enable automatic backup. You can import/export from/to online storages. You can also disable the blinking LED light, enable idle sleeping etc using the software.Register at WD official website to check your warranty status, product manual etc. Warranty is 3 years from the date of invoice (not the date of delivery). It’s been 3 days, so I’m writing this review- it’s not that durable it’s made kinda plastic so if you drop it I mean you HDD is gone- now lets talk ’bout other features it’s very portable and light weight so you can easily carry and also it’s easy to use as it’s plug and play and it’s coming with wd softwares for backup and security but these are outdated so download it from the wd website and use- the color and design is also very good and it’s not noisy and the data transfer speed is quite embarrassing ’cause as of USB 3.0 it’s speed must within 120-80 Mbps but actually it’s speed is a bit slow it’s 60-90 Mbps I haven’t even seen 100 Mbps with this drive so far- but after all it’s a product with a lots bad and good reviews by the customers so you have to wait till the end of the day I mean end of the HDD so until then have a nice experience. thanks be force with you

The device works perfectly and can be used on xbox, ps4 pc and Mac however you will not get the full 4tb when I plugged mine in it said that I had 3.6tb available, tried formatting it and still the same, that’s 400gb that I can’t use on the device I understand that some is needed to be used by the system to make it run etc but not nearly half a terabyte

The hard disk works just fine, but the data cable attached to it is very poor and becomes very loose after just 6 months. Even if the laptop is moved very little the wire becomes loose and whole setup is disturbed

I just used it twice. 1st tym i put my data into it which was around 800 gb. 2nd tym when I connected it, it’s file system crashed. I had to format my HDD and lost all my data.

This is my 10th Seagate HDD purchase. I really love seagate external hard drives. I have 1 TB, 1.5 TB and 2 TB. A few days ago, when i saw this new model edition and i thought of giving it try. I liked the design but the problem is its in ”exFAT” system format. Usually, most of the drive will be in NTFS which is quite user friendly. But this ”exFAT” has biggest problem with transfer speed. So, i have to format to NTFS and now, transfer speed is good. So, as of now, its better to go for older model than new one. Because full formatting takes hours and it just painful and consumes time. Yes, you can go for quick format but full format identifies bad sectors and it literally completes formatting procedure.Of course, ”exFAT” is advance file system of FAT32. And also it detected with Sony LED TV. But the problem is transfer speed. And also i read the file system formats in Seagate website, especially about ”exFAT” file system, kindly see below:”exFAT: generally compatible with Mac and Windows. exFAT is not a journaled file system which means it can be more susceptible to data corruption when errors occur or the drive is not disconnected properly from the computer”This is not user friendly but you have to format it to NTFS to make it as user friendly. Therefore, i leave it up to you, guys! and its your call for going for this new edition of Seagate.

Within less than a month it stopped being detected by my computer.With extremely important data in it I had to send it for recovering data which is not included in the warranty, costed me 45000 to recover from a 4K worth device.

Think twice before buying Sony Hard disk as it’s a cheap product. The hard disk inside the plastic cover is manufactured by Toshiba, which you can buy at half the cost from open market, as I enquired straight. I had a good image about Sony brand, but seems things have changed a lot since the Chinese technology invasion into making cheaper non durable products. Think twice, here think and buy if you necessarily need a Sony hd only. Thanks

The product performance seems ok, I was able to store some 200 GB Data, but I am not sure if it is locked whether it is covered under warranty. One should check this before buying, most of the guys make money by locking the data. Secondly I was charged 6600 less 500 bucks cash back during the festive season. However I found the product price was listed as 5750 after the festive sale concluded. I felt that I was being taken for a royal ride…..when I contacted Amazon guys their amazing reply was bad luck buddy we are helpless ! So guys beware unless you are sure that you are getting a good deal during festive season don’t buy if you are unsure.

Good productBut little price up

Hooked this up to an IMac via a USB 2 port (even though the USB port on the drive is USB 3, it is backward compatible with USB 2) and it worked perfectly right out of the box. There’s a single LED showing drive activity which is located at the back of the drive where you cannot see it. Hmm! Somebody didn’t think that through did they. I cannot comment of the speed of the drive when it is connected to a USB 3 port on a Mac since I have it connected to a USB 2 port. What I can say is that copying about 1.8TB of files onto it took about 20 hours. As a backup drive it’s superb and it is also pretty quiet. Thoroughly recommended.

I’ve been a fan of the My Passport range for years and have loved their looks, performance and portability. I needed another back up disk because my current laptop’s hard drive is larger and I have more data to back up. This 2 TB hard drive is portable and stylish and speedy enough for me when it comes to file transfers and the like. I got the Mac version but it could be reformatted if required.

Incluso se han eliminado las patas de goma que siempre han llevado los modelos superiores de este fabricante, lo que conlleva que transmita más facilmente las vibraciones al girar y que se deslice con demasiada facilidad.Este es el caso de este nuevo disco de Western Digital, que ha bajado en tamaño físico,-lo que está muy bien-, aumentado en capacidad,-que también esta bien-, pero bajando las prestaciones, lo que ya no está tan bien; nada bien, en realidad.Respecto de la serie anterior, el rendimiento es entre un 25% y un 35% inferior. Esto se traduce en que, al copiar contenido, donde la versión anterior mantenía unos dignos 80-90 MB/s ahora se obtienen 50-60MB/s. En mi opinión, esto es inaceptable. Por poner un ejemplo, para copiar 4 TB necesitarás más de 36 horas, 12 horas más que con la serie anterior. Y hablando de Teras, ya sabréis que la industria juega a manipular los datos sobre capacidades hablando de teras no informaticos (base 10) en vez de los que cualquier usuario espera (base 8). No os extrañe por tanto comprobar que vuestro PC informe que el disco tiene una capacidad de 4,54 TB en vez de los 5 TB anunciados. Me parece poco ético que utilicen una medición fuera del ámbito PC y más propios de la industria de las telecomunicaciones.Por todo ello, y en mi opinión, no es un producto recomendable.Añado que es mucho más ruidoso que la serie anterior. Yo creo que es debido al fino plástico de la carcasa que hace de caja de resonancia cuando gira.

The hard disk works just fine, but the data cable attached to it is very poor and becomes very loose after just 6 months. Even if the laptop is moved very little the wire becomes loose and whole setup is disturbed

I was deciding between WD or Seagate but ended up on this as WD is somewhat more reputable than the latter.Now coming onto the HDD it’s as good as it can be , the read write speeds are amazing and touches 100 MBps when copying one big file but slows down when copying multiple smaller file but this is not a fault of HDD so it’s all good. LED notification light is also not that aggressively lit so you can easily work at night in dark. No vibration or any annoying sounds so it’s definitely a plus.One thing I didn’t like that much is the guild quality. The plastic used is cheap and flimsy and does not feel sturdy in hand so if it falls down goodbye forever. Plastic quality could have been better.You need to register you Product at WD portal to avail warranty in future so do that as soon as you get it. It provides 2 years warranty instead of 3 years like Seagate so that’s also somewhat off-putting.So overall nice for cheap unimportant data backup but I wouldn’t trust this for important sensitive personal data as build quality is cheap but biggest plus is its affordability in fact go for Seagate or WD they both are good.Well so far so good but if any problem arise in future will update… happy Independence day.

Bought this thing on the 22nd of September. Barely one month has passed (It’s 9th of October now) and recently it started making weirdclicking noises and stopped working.I have applied for a replacement and hopefully get my money’s worth on this.

The first thing i liked about this product is its lightweight for the storage of 2TB.I received a genuine product from Amazon at a pretty good deal of ₹4499.The speed test conducted using CrystalDiskMark6 provided me Read speed at 133.6 MB/s and Write speed at 122.7 MB/sLoved it totally!

This is my 10th Seagate HDD purchase. I really love seagate external hard drives. I have 1 TB, 1.5 TB and 2 TB. A few days ago, when i saw this new model edition and i thought of giving it try. I liked the design but the problem is its in ”exFAT” system format. Usually, most of the drive will be in NTFS which is quite user friendly. But this ”exFAT” has biggest problem with transfer speed. So, i have to format to NTFS and now, transfer speed is good. So, as of now, its better to go for older model than new one. Because full formatting takes hours and it just painful and consumes time. Yes, you can go for quick format but full format identifies bad sectors and it literally completes formatting procedure.Of course, ”exFAT” is advance file system of FAT32. And also it detected with Sony LED TV. But the problem is transfer speed. And also i read the file system formats in Seagate website, especially about ”exFAT” file system, kindly see below:”exFAT: generally compatible with Mac and Windows. exFAT is not a journaled file system which means it can be more susceptible to data corruption when errors occur or the drive is not disconnected properly from the computer”This is not user friendly but you have to format it to NTFS to make it as user friendly. Therefore, i leave it up to you, guys! and its your call for going for this new edition of Seagate.

NOTE: All are tested on windows 10 with USB 3.0 compatible port & cable.writing speed: I got maximum of 109MB/s for *.zip file avg 50MB/s for some *.mkv files to exFAT & NTFS formatreading Speed: avg 100MB/s for same *.zip file maximum 110MB/s for *.mkv file I am facing heating issue while transferring files & connected standby.

I have a Apple Time Capsule for years and it just stopped working. I got this one and solves my backup issues as it smoothly connects to Apple’s Time Machine Software. I partitioned two sections, one for the time machine backup and the other for extra storage.

Kudos to amazon again for the delivery. They’re always reliable and take good care of their customers or at least I’m speaking for myself.Then coming to the product itself I’ve 3 hard disks and all three of them are western digital 2TB brought in different years and each single one of them is working fabulously so far. No complaints whatsoever till now. I’d recommend it to my friends.

Worst product. Lost my 400 gb of data saying parameter is in correct .This is second time iam experience in this issue with same company drive. Do not buy this.

I have manage to connect to hard drive and save around 9 GB data on disk when I have used it first time. However, next time when I have tried to connect hard drive it was unable to connect or restore data. It is not allowing disk formatting option as well..total waste of money
