I have to say, this drive has surpassed my expectations. It is well made, compact and doesnt come with any bloatware preinstalled on it trying to get me to use their backup solution or anything else.The drive is just that. A drive. A quick drive with a lot of space.First and foremost I was shocked at how small it was. It is the first portable hard drive I’ve owned, and I was pleased with the fact that it can fit in the small zip top pocket on my computer backpack that was designed to hold a mouse, and still have room for that mouse. On top of that, if I really needed to, I could stick it in my pocket. It really is that slim.The build quality is top notch, the case doesnt creak or rattle, its smooth to the touch without being so slick that you’d drop it, and it has nice rubber feet to prevent rattling during drive access when it is sitting on your desk.The drive itself is very quick, I managed to transfer a 2 gigabyte ISO file to it in under 20 seconds, the drive averaged around 80 MB/s (peaking at about 100MB/s) on a USB3 interface.If I really *HAD* to nitpick, I’d say that the USB 3.0 cable is a little too rigid, but honestly it doesnt bother me and I like the size of it, despite being only about 1ft long, as it is a perfect size to travel with the drive no matter where I put it.

Worst product. I suggest not to buy this one. The packing was not good, torn packaging, the item does not look a new one. I did not expect this from Amazon.inAnd I cannot risk my money for this product. I will buy a new one with other brand. Please do not buy this model.

Amazing Product. Data transfer speed is about 90 to 100MB/s via USB3 port. Very Slim & easily portable to carry anywhere. Amazon delivery is great. picked up from the nearest pickup store which is the best facility ever offered by an e-commerce website. Registration on wd website was also hassle free. Only one thing is that the length of the usb cable should”ve been longer otherwise there is no defect in the product. Thanks to WD and Amazon for this wonderful product.

Last year in Nov 17 i have bought an external hard disc, but now its not working, all my important datas are inside it. i have shown it to service centers also but they are saying that HD is not working and data also cannot be retrieved. Works well with mac. You can either format it fully to hfs+. Or you can make 2 partitions for NTFS and HFS+ that way it can be used with other computers as well. I use the HFS+ for timemachine backup.Note: If you also need to write to NTFS partition then you will need to install some software. There are free and open source as well as paid solutions for this, just google for it.

inside is a WD Blue WD60EZRZ HDD with an 8 second idle timer which can’t be turned off or changed to a longer duration. Look for WD Load Cycle Count issue for more information.Edit: A work around for the LCC issue is to use the KeepAliveHD software from GitHub

I am very disappointed by this product. It just doesn’t get detected for a whole day once disconnected by mistake. It has not been more than 5 months, the disk is spoiled and it’s not at all being detected anymore. I am a music director and all my projects and data are in that and now I regret very much that I’ve bought this product. Working with this type of gadget is very risky and dangerous I would say. May be only this desktop model is risky. The portable one is not as much risky as it gets detected immediately if disconnected by mistake. Buyers please be careful if you can store it without touching or without a power break, inly then it is good otherwise it is a useless idea!

Ordered this on freedom sale and got this for only 3600. I was deciding between WD or Seagate but ended up on this as WD is somewhat more reputable than the latter.Now coming onto the HDD it’s as good as it can be , the read write speeds are amazing and touches 100 MBps when copying one big file but slows down when copying multiple smaller file but this is not a fault of HDD so it’s all good. LED notification light is also not that aggressively lit so you can easily work at night in dark. No vibration or any annoying sounds so it’s definitely a plus.One thing I didn’t like that much is the guild quality. The plastic used is cheap and flimsy and does not feel sturdy in hand so if it falls down goodbye forever. Plastic quality could have been better.You need to register you Product at WD portal to avail warranty in future so do that as soon as you get it. It provides 2 years warranty instead of 3 years like Seagate so that’s also somewhat off-putting.So overall nice for cheap unimportant data backup but I wouldn’t trust this for important sensitive personal data as build quality is cheap but biggest plus is its affordability in fact go for Seagate or WD they both are good.Well so far so good but if any problem arise in future will update… happy Independence day.

I have a WD MyCloud 2TB with a Seagate 4TB Backup Plus as a backup and both required power, but I need a 4TB portable hard disk and ended up in buying this Western Digital 4TB My Passport Portable hard disk (New Edition) for Rs.8198.————————————————📦 IN THE BOX & HDD CONTENTS————————————————◾ 4TB Blue Portable Harddisk in a bubble case◾ Superspeed USB cable◾ Quick Install Guide◾ WD Discovery software for WD Backup◾ WD Security and WD Drive Utilities—————————————-🗓️ MY USAGE & EXPERIENCE—————————————-The product has been manufactured in Thailand and imported to India and this New Edition WD My Passport is supposed to have lesser failures and supposed to be more robust than the previous version.Upon connecting 3.63TB was free and 297MB was used by the formatting of the disk which stores the disk geometry that allows hard disk to accept, store, and retrieve data. The hard disk was formatted with NTFS.This hard disk fits inside the palm of the hand and is quite small for a 4TB, 10.7cm length, 7.5cm breadth and 1.8cm depth, and is not heavy too.Being a portable hard disk, it doesn’t require any power. I was able to connect it with my Xbox, WD MyCloud, Laptop and Desktop with ease and it detects quite fast.The write speeds were at 110 MB/s in actual and read speeds was around 115 MB/s. The disk reports were also almost similar at 120-127 MB/s. (see attached report). But the speeds changes depending on the free disk space, how much the disk is fragmented and whether there are any bad sectors, etc. This is quite impressive in my opinion.I didn’t see any heating up issues with this new edition and temperature always remained under 37 degree C even under heavy writes in my testing with room temperature around 27- degree C.The WD Discovery software is super cool, it can import files from social media and maintain a backup. It can also take a backup from WD MyCloud devices.The WD Security app provides a way to setup a password for the hard disk and contents can be encrypted, so when data is written it’s encrypted and when data is read it’s decrypted when password is used. I haven’t tried any brute force recovery of data on this disk yet but the encryption seems to be good enough for home use. I didn’t set the password as if password is forgotten I can’t recover it back and only way to re-use the disk is by formatting.The hard disk has a small led indicator which can be turned off from the WD Discovery settings if required.I was able to backup all my YouTube video edits with ease and quickly, also was able to back up my Dropbox.I don’t see any cons as of now, and since I haven’t contacted the customer service I can’t comment on that part.————————-💖 WHAT I LIKED————————-◾ 3 years warranty◾ Good looking and light weight◾ Automatic backup, Password protection + 256bit Encryption◾ Fast read and write speeds——————-🥇 OVERALL——————-A great hard disk at a good pricing. This is my 10th Seagate HDD purchase. I really love seagate external hard drives. I have 1 TB, 1.5 TB and 2 TB. A few days ago, when i saw this new model edition and i thought of giving it try. I liked the design but the problem is its in ”exFAT” system format. Usually, most of the drive will be in NTFS which is quite user friendly. But this ”exFAT” has biggest problem with transfer speed. So, i have to format to NTFS and now, transfer speed is good. So, as of now, its better to go for older model than new one. Because full formatting takes hours and it just painful and consumes time. Yes, you can go for quick format but full format identifies bad sectors and it literally completes formatting procedure.Of course, ”exFAT” is advance file system of FAT32. And also it detected with Sony LED TV. But the problem is transfer speed. And also i read the file system formats in Seagate website, especially about ”exFAT” file system, kindly see below:”exFAT: generally compatible with Mac and Windows. exFAT is not a journaled file system which means it can be more susceptible to data corruption when errors occur or the drive is not disconnected properly from the computer”This is not user friendly but you have to format it to NTFS to make it as user friendly. Therefore, i leave it up to you, guys! and its your call for going for this new edition of Seagate.

Esto se traduce en que, al copiar contenido, donde la versión anterior mantenía unos dignos 80-90 MB/s ahora se obtienen 50-60MB/s. En mi opinión, esto es inaceptable. Por poner un ejemplo, para copiar 4 TB necesitarás más de 36 horas, 12 horas más que con la serie anterior. Y hablando de Teras, ya sabréis que la industria juega a manipular los datos sobre capacidades hablando de teras no informaticos (base 10) en vez de los que cualquier usuario espera (base 8). No os extrañe por tanto comprobar que vuestro PC informe que el disco tiene una capacidad de 4,54 TB en vez de los 5 TB anunciados. Incluso se han eliminado las patas de goma que siempre han llevado los modelos superiores de este fabricante, lo que conlleva que transmita más facilmente las vibraciones al girar y que se deslice con demasiada facilidad.Este es el caso de este nuevo disco de Western Digital, que ha bajado en tamaño físico,-lo que está muy bien-, aumentado en capacidad,-que también esta bien-, pero bajando las prestaciones, lo que ya no está tan bien; nada bien, en realidad.Respecto de la serie anterior, el rendimiento es entre un 25% y un 35% inferior. Esto se traduce en que, al copiar contenido, donde la versión anterior mantenía unos dignos 80-90 MB/s ahora se obtienen 50-60MB/s. En mi opinión, esto es inaceptable. Por poner un ejemplo, para copiar 4 TB necesitarás más de 36 horas, 12 horas más que con la serie anterior. Y hablando de Teras, ya sabréis que la industria juega a manipular los datos sobre capacidades hablando de teras no informaticos (base 10) en vez de los que cualquier usuario espera (base 8). No os extrañe por tanto comprobar que vuestro PC informe que el disco tiene una capacidad de 4,54 TB en vez de los 5 TB anunciados. Me parece poco ético que utilicen una medición fuera del ámbito PC y más propios de la industria de las telecomunicaciones.Por todo ello, y en mi opinión, no es un producto recomendable.Añado que es mucho más ruidoso que la serie anterior. Yo creo que es debido al fino plástico de la carcasa que hace de caja de resonancia cuando gira.

The hard disk works just fine, but the data cable attached to it is very poor and becomes very loose after just 6 months. Even if the laptop is moved very little the wire becomes loose and whole setup is disturbed

 ☝️A PREVIEW TO PURCHASE :***********************************I like to keep backups of backups of my lifetime collected data & thus have over 15 TB of external harddisks in my arsenal with a dominant share of Western digital disks( both passport & elements ) & few others like Transcend , Samsung SSD & a seagate ( old usb 2.0 ).🔶️ Now , whenever we opt to go for a new external Disk purchase, the following challenges are encountered & if you are planning to invest thousands in purchase – my detailed review, even though a bit lengthy is worth reading.👉 HDDs vs SSDs :**********************While none of the mechanical HDDs can reach the blazing fast speeds of SSDs in excess of 500 MB/s R/W, The HDDs definitely offer a better value for money per MB of storage.Also if data is corrupted in a SSD its almost never retrievable while in a HDD , there is always a hope depending upon extent of damage.🔷️ So for majority bulk backup – HDD are a better option to costlier SSDs.👉 WD vs Seagate :*********************This is again a topmost struggle making a decision.🔸️Now both are giant reputed american storage brands & preference is mostly based upon personal usage experiences.🔸️I read somewhere that seagate offers better speeds& WD better reliability but i dont feel its true as speeds depend upon type of files being transferred & reliability upon manufacturing processes , which is hard to doubt for both brands.🔸️ Regarding price WD is a bit costlier to seagate for same capacity.🔸️ Both offer same warranties of 3 years.I had a wd failure & my friend had seagate failure – yet we both got replacements with data restored from their service centres.🔸️ Regarding inbuilt software , i suppose WD is better as it comes with WD discovery that can link with all your social portals for backup too.🔷️ So you can go for any of these brands – WD being my personal favourite.🔷️ To ensure failsafe operation , testing for bad sectors before use ( using WD utility or any other HDD inspection software like HD sentinel etc ) is always a good idea.🔷️ Store these drives horizontally in a dry case & not vertically or inclined , as in latter case the heads and platters tend to deform & get stuck.I learnt it the hard way.💝 I bought the latest 2019 4 TB passport drive and 3.63 TB of usable space was available in it.🔸️ The packing as usual was good enough with an instruction manual & 8 inches of connecting cable.5/5 ⭐🔸️ The HD enclosure is premium ABS plastic which can surely withstand few non- severe slips & falls.A periphery cushioning or base padding with shock absorbent rubber would additionaly be great.4.2 /5 ⭐🔸️ The design & looks of this new drive aren’t as elegant & classy, as previous passports & elements as my personal opinion.2/5 ⭐🔸️ The drive is very compact, sturdy & light weight too.5/5 ⭐🔸️ It was formatted in NTFS mode with 4096 bytes of allocation unit size.ExFat is another option & you can play with allocation size also for better speeds but a bit less space.5/5 ⭐🔸️ With a mixed media & software file folder transfer of 5 GB , i registered – a write speed of 112 MB /s & a read speed of 160 MB /s on my HP omen core i7 configuration , which i suppose is fair enough for a mechanical Hard drive.5/5 ⭐🔸️ The new Hard disk has softwares for mac & windows backup both.5/5 ⭐🔸️ The HD has a very small point like white led indication for status & won’t bother much in dark rooms.5/5 ⭐🔸️ The HD is very silent during operation & doesn’t heat much even after few hours of backup.5/5 ⭐🔸️ Warranty offered is 3 years which is contemporary to industry standards & similar to seagate.As already quoted earlier , i had one harddisk replaced & data restored in warranty like 6 years back by WD.So no issues there, noone is going to offer pick & drop at home – be assured.🤏 Final Verdict :**********************All in all , I have always been a WD guy & this new 2019 version further restores my faith in the same.

At the heart of the matter, the write speeds are low, in my case virtually “0”. Crystal disk mark for a 64Bit Windows machine is given.Would recommend some other Tier 1 brands instead of this if the drive is used for backup, you need good and sustained speeds, which this drive does not giveOn the positive the product looks good, much nicer than the earlier gen for sure.

Ordered this on freedom sale and got this for only 3600. I was deciding between WD or Seagate but ended up on this as WD is somewhat more reputable than the latter.Now coming onto the HDD it’s as good as it can be , the read write speeds are amazing and touches 100 MBps when copying one big file but slows down when copying multiple smaller file but this is not a fault of HDD so it’s all good. LED notification light is also not that aggressively lit so you can easily work at night in dark. No vibration or any annoying sounds so it’s definitely a plus.One thing I didn’t like that much is the guild quality. The plastic used is cheap and flimsy and does not feel sturdy in hand so if it falls down goodbye forever. Plastic quality could have been better.You need to register you Product at WD portal to avail warranty in future so do that as soon as you get it. It provides 2 years warranty instead of 3 years like Seagate so that’s also somewhat off-putting.So overall nice for cheap unimportant data backup but I wouldn’t trust this for important sensitive personal data as build quality is cheap but biggest plus is its affordability in fact go for Seagate or WD they both are good.Well so far so good but if any problem arise in future will update… happy Independence day.

transfers with 100Mb/s average on USB 3(blue port) and 32Mb/s on USB 2(black port) on pc… simple as that… fits in jeans back pocket…
